A transformation begins

Sitting in our garage for ten-plus years has been a cute red 1974 Triumph TR6. Sitting there because of the need for a transmission overhaul, that I knew would require me to dig up a couple of my coffee cans of money buried in the backyard. It has also been thought of as a retirement project. Now that I'm on the cusp of that state, my fancy has been captured by the idea of building a 14-foot strip-built rowing boat called a Cosine Wherry.

So the TR6 must go, must be somehow be bolted into a saleable state that will hopefully fill enough coffee cans that both Hilda and I can take on that and other projects. The transmission went to our local mechanic the middle of November, (photo above) and today returned (in exchange for said coffee cans). Now it is up to me to replace the clutch, clean and rebuild the carburetors, replace rubber hoses and gaskets, clean out the gas tank, and all the other stuff needed to get a car moving that has been idle for a decade.

I'm planning on documenting this transformation of a car into a boat in this blog. Stay tuned.

Coffee cans of money will never bring happiness but "disposing" of them in exchange for a worthwhile project that will give you a sense of pride and fulfillment will bring you happiness. "The purpose of life is to pursue happiness." Dalai Lama.

Can't wait to read all about the project. I've wondered about that car from time to time. And then I can't wait to hear about the second project!

coffee cans

And you thought I was just wandering around your yard looking for plant cuttings I could snag. It was the coffee cans I was really after!

I think over half of what I brought home did actually get in the ground early enough to take hold. Last time I could see through the snow pack, some of them were still living plants.
