Taking the Trailer for a Ride

Dad loved messing about with his trailer. He enjoyed that as much as camping, I think. He would find excuses to "take the trailer for a ride". Perhaps it was to check out some new hitch adjustment, or work the grease in after packing the bearings. It might be around the block, or it might be to the ocean or the redwoods for a picnic.
This photo might have been from one of those days. It's 1958 and we've got the whole gang at Armstrong Woods - cousins, grandparents, even Grandpa T's friend, Mr. Panholzer. Looks like everyone has great expectations for what Mom's going to extract from that can for lunch. Looks like Mom's wondering how she's going to do it.
You'll find more 1958 family photos here.
I think the spring weather has sprung loose this memory. Hilda and I just might "Take the Minnie for a ride" in the next couple of days.

Dana — Tue, 05/12/2009 - 8:25pmI always wonder at how the change in light and weather can trigger memories of things related by seasonality. It's amazing how much is stored away in our files and can be accessed if tickled properly.
I love the photo, Tony. It almost looks as though mischief is afoot.
Love this
