We are nestled among ferns along a quiet creek. Calls of birds echo in the trees that tower over us. A whole blissful week full of days stretches ahead.

Time enough to screw the camera down on the tripod, feel the light, sense composition, and even get the f-stops right most of the time.

In the past we have wandered the Mendocino Coast from Point Arena in the south all the way up to Rockport, where Highway 1 finally abandons the ocean and heads inland. This time we are content to stay more or less put...our journeys away from camp take us only up the coast as far as the town of Fort Bragg, south to the village of Mendocino, and inland only as far as our feet care to wander up Fern Canyon.
