Notes

John Mindling[1] was a telegraph operator in Richmond Indianna about the time I was born in 1912. When I was about five years old he took and passed a stenographers examination for the civil service. This was during World War I. The family then moved to Washington, D.C., where we remained until about 1935, when his work caused us all to move to Chicago. My parents had two children, Leo born in 1912, and Helen, born in 1914. Helen was killed in an unfortunate automobile accident in 1972.
